Angler’s Cove A brief history of Restaurant & Bar.
The Port of the Islands Hotel and Marina started as Ramuda Ranch circa 1960. In 1980 Bill Ray, a developer with a dream obtained a 7-million-dollar bond for the completion of Port of the Islands. Mr. Ray died in 1991 and in 1994 the family auctioned off the remaining undeveloped properties to private owners. Port of the Islands is situated within the 10,000 Island Federal Wildlife Refuge. State and federal agencies have been restoring a portion of the natural watershed that comprises the property frequently identified as the Everglades. This area is well known for the numbers of manatees that frequent this area. POI remains a mecca for wildlife enthusiasts, fishermen, and boaters.
